Applications :

Foods

The consistent high quality, purity, clarity, sweet taste and low odour of  Glycerine can make your products smoother, richer, moister and fresher. They play an important role in food and beverage products by adding humectancy to dried fruits, reducing water activity in cookies and snack fillings, and making gum more chewable. Their unique properties enable them to improve foods and beverages by acting as:

. Additives to reduce water activity
. Emulsifiers as monoglycerides for food preparations, especially baked goods
. Heat transfer mediums for frozen foods
. Humectants
. Smoothing agents
. Solvents for food flavoring and colorings
. Sweeteners (glycerine is about 75% as sweet as sucrose)

Nutraceuticals

Because consumers are concerned about purity, Glycerine is especially well suited for use in nutraceuticals by both the food and pharmaceutical industries due to its high purity and consistent quality. Nutraceuticals are the fastest growing application in the food and dietary supplement industries. Nutraceuticals are generally defined as naturally occurring compounds found in plants and other biological sources and include vitamins, minerals, microbials and herbs. They may be a food or a food ingredient that provides a health or medical benefit.

Pharmaceuticals

For ailments ranging from poison ivy to angina pectoris, glycerine is a key ingredient in numerous pharmaceutical treatments. The high quality and purity, plus low odour and non-toxicity of glycerine make it one of the most widely used chemicals worldwide in the formulation of pharmaceuticals.

Glycerine sweet taste makes them an ideal ingredient in syrups and lozenges. Glycerine derivatives also are widely used in tranquilizers, in the treatment of angina pectoris and as expectorants in asthma therapy.

Other pharmaceutical uses include:

. Eyewashes
. Contraceptive jellies and creams
. Ear drops
. Poison ivy solutions
. Vehicle and solvent for digitalis and intra-muscular injection
. Sclerosing solutions for treatment of varicose veins and hemorrhoids
. Suppositories
. Gel capsules

Personal Care and Cosmetics

Glycerine are some of the most versatile ingredients and raw materials found within personal care formulations. They are found in skin lotions, shaving soaps, deodorant pastes and hair care products.

In emollient products, they offer key advantages as efficient humectants or hygroscopic agents. In liquid preparations, their viscosity provides body and the ability to suspend many insoluble materials. Elsewhere, their excellent lubricating properties impart a desirable smoothness. And they offer outstanding winter shelf life because of their antifreeze properties.

Oral Care

In dentistry, glycerine lends body, smoothness and palatability to many dental formulations. Glycerine is ideal for toothpaste applications, where they provide the basic medium and serve to keep the paste at the desired smoothness and viscosity. Plus, their consistently high purity does not affect the stability and shelf life for many of the newer toothpastes containing baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.

Glycerine also are used as solvents for antiseptics, oral medications, root canal pastes, polishing compounds, disclosing solutions, mouth washes, stannous fluoride solutions, dental impression waxes and denture casting materials.

Other Applications

Other uses where Glycerine provides the competitive edge include :

. Adhesives and pastes
. Agriculture
. Air conditioning and refrigeration
. Construction, furniture and automobile polyurethanes
. Cork gaskets and sealers
. Electrical materials
. Fabric softeners
. Glass and ceramics
. Inks
. Laboratory materials
. Leather
. Metals
. Photography
. Podiatry and chiropody
. Propellants and rocket fuel binders
. Rubber
. Surface and architectural coatings
. Textiles
. Wood
