Fire Hazard Phosphoric acid is not flammable by itself. But may react with some metals, to liberate hydrogen which may cause a fire or explosin. When exposed to extreme heat, decomposition to phosphorus-pentoxide which is toxic, strongly oxidising and corrosive may result
Effect of contact/exposure Phosphoric acid is considered moderately toxic. Contact with the liquid may cause irritation, burns, or mild corrosive action on skin. Abut such action may differ with each individual. Prolonged or repeated contact  may lead to dermatitis.

 

PREVENTIVE MEASURES Personal Protective equipment:

  • Gloves                        PVC or rubber gloves
  • Eyes                           Goggles and face shields
  • Clothing                      Apron or other light clothing
First Aid: Entry into human system by inhalation is rare. When phosphoric acid comes into contact with skin tissue or eyes it should be washed off thoroughly by large amounts of water. In case of accidental swallowing the victim should drink large amounts of water to dilute the acid effect.
